NC State vs Purdue: March Madness Final Four Recap, Injury Updates, Stats, and Championship Odds

 


NC State Wolfpack's basketball journey in March Madness concluded with a 63-50 defeat against the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday in the Final Four of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

 

The Wolfpack, with a season record of 26-15, wraps up the season as ACC Tournament champions, marking their first Final Four appearance since 1983. On the other hand, the Boilermakers, with a record of 34-4, are set to face either the No. 1 seeded UConn (35-3) or No. 4 seeded Alabama (25-11) in Monday’s national championship game.

 

During the game, Michael O'Connell sustained a hamstring injury in the first half, while Zach Edey showcased his prowess as the national player of the year with another stellar performance for Purdue. Raleigh native DJ Horne notched 20 points in his final game for the Wolfpack.

 

Purdue secured a 63-50 victory against NC State in the Final Four, signaling the end of the Wolfpack's season, while the Boilermakers advance to contend for the national title.

 

Both NC State and Purdue struggled with their shooting at State Farm Stadium, particularly in the second half. However, Purdue relied on Zach Edey's performance to maintain their lead.

 

At halftime, Purdue held a 35-29 advantage over NC State.

 

DJ Horne's late-game efforts spurred a rally for the Wolfpack against Purdue, narrowing the score margin before Purdue extended its lead with a three-pointer.

 

Despite sustaining a hamstring injury in the first half, NC State's Michael O'Connell returned to the game.

 

Breon Pass and Jayden Taylor provided a significant boost off the bench for NC State in the first half.

 

NC State's DJ Burns encountered foul trouble late in the first half, receiving his second foul with 6:29 remaining.

Purdue established a double-digit lead in the first half, with strong performances from Lance Jones and Zach Edey.

NC State faced an early deficit against Purdue, allowing Purdue to build a 12-4 lead.

The starting lineup for NC State against Purdue remained consistent with the group that propelled them throughout the season.
